We were proud to take part in the opening plenary session and to present our scientific poster at CommOcean 2026 in Bergen.
CommOcean is a global conference held every two years that brings together ocean communicators from around the world to share their work, processes, and results in ocean literacy. The 7th edition, hosted by the University of Bergen, brought together leading marine scientists, communicators, and designers dedicated to strengthening public engagement with the ocean.
Our plenary contribution, Seeing the Sound, asked the question we keep returning to: can storytelling provide a meaningful path to agency?

Our plenary contribution, Seeing the Sound, asked the question we keep returning to: can storytelling provide a meaningful path to agency?
Nearly four million people live alongside the Sound, a partially recovered, uniquely productive and deeply fragile marine habitat, and they share a language of stewardship, democratic trust and care for the natural world.
Whether that translates into a personal relationship with the sea itself is a different question. Knowing is not the same as caring, and knowing and caring without acting is a closed loop. What sits between them is connection: understanding complexity, immersion, daring to engage. That is a description of storytelling.
For Öresund Patrol, the conference was a valuable opportunity to expand our network, draw inspiration from many successful projects, and reaffirm the importance of our mission. As an interdisciplinary team, we can turn scientific knowledge into meaningful engagement, empowering citizens to become advocates for the ocean and champions of positive change.
We are all connected by one ocean and face the same global challenges, but solutions and action must be led locally. The health of the Sound cannot be solved by one country. It depends on shared science, shared action and shared responsibility.
